Tanker Due To 715 Job With Reported People Trapped

Mon, May 12th, 2008, 3:49 am

Early this morning Tanker 78 was alerted along with other area units to a townhouse fire with reported people trapped at 316 Oak Ridge Dr. in Co. 715's (Mountville) district. Initial reports came from a neighbor advising of the townhouse on fire and occupants unaccounted for. First arriving units reported a townhouse in the middle of a row with fire and smoke showing. Shortly there after it was determined that all occupants were out of the structure. Tanker 78 arrived and prepared to establish a water source in the event the hydrants were compromised. Command quickly asked for an additional engine and truck to the scene for RIT due to all hands working the fire. After 48 minutes the fire was declared under control and the tanker was released. Company 78 held two crews in quarters while the tanker was operating at this incident.

Shortly after returning, Company 78 was back on the street again. This time for reported trees and wires down on Rapho Street in the uptown section of the Boro. Engine 781 and Squad 78, staffed with 5, responded to the scene and placed barricades up until PPL could arrived to take care of the problem. Station 78 again held an additional crew in quarters for this run.

Co. 78 FF Sweigart Participates In Red Rose Drill

Thu, May 8th, 2008, 8:00 am

Today was the annual Red Rose Drill held at the Lancaster County Public Safety Training Center. This drill is done each year to ensure in the event of a major disaster or terrorist attack we have the resources available at short notice to help mitigate the situation. Units from multiple fire, ems, haz-mat, and police agenices, as well as the national guard particpate in the drill each year. Zach Sweigart, one of our members, attends the Lancaster County CTC Fire Training Program at LCPSTC. He was asked to assist in the drill by working with Engine Co. 719 (Hempfield) during live fire and rescue exercises. Zach was placed on the line working with crews from 719 to suppress the fire and rescue trapped civilians in a car accident. He also worked with haz-mat during decon. The drill lasted most of the day and was a success. A big thank you goes to Zach for helping out on such short notice.
