Around mid afternoon today Company 78, Engine and Rescue 841(Susquehanna), and Tanker 62 (Highville) were dispatched to 1750 Hilltop Road for a reported vehicle fire endangering a house. Deputy 78 (J. Knapp) responded and was advised the vehicle was 100 yards off the roadway down a long driveway and that the fire was getting closer to the caller's house. Deputy 78 arrived and reported the vehicle to be 60-70 feet from the house but the fire was spreading into the woods. An extra engine was added to the assignment bringing Engine 621 to the scene. Crews worked for about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control. Cause of the fire is under investigation by the Manor Township PD.

At just about lunch time Tanker 78 and other area units were alerted for a possible structure fire at 3950 Columbia Avenue in Company 715's (Mountville) area. The caller reported smelling an odor of rubber burning which she thought could have been an electrical fire in the building. Engine 7151 arrived with nothing showing on sides "alpha" and "delta" from a 3 story worship center. Tanker 78 staged and then was released after about 30 minutes. Station 78 held a second crew in quarters while the tanker operated at the incident.

Tonight lines of severe thunderstorms rocked the village of Washington Boro and surrounding areas. The calls started at 1743 hours with a public service for a tree down at 1313 Central Manor Road. The Squad also checked on some downed wires at 1321 Central Manor Road as they were headed to the first call. Shortly after backing into the firehouse, Engine 782 and the Squad were back on the street again. This time they headed to 18 2nd Street for more trees and wires down. While the Squad was on the scene at 2nd Street a neighbor advised of storm damage to their home at 41 Charlestown Road. After clearing, Engine 782 and Squad 78 headed to the Charlestown Road address and assisted that resident with a large tree that had come down during the storm. A QRS call was also answered on Central Manor Road for an Injured Person while the fire units were out on storm calls. A great job was done by the LCWC dispatchers as they were hammered with hundreds of calls for storm related incidents across the region.

After a somewhat long dry spell, calls have started to pick up for Company 78. It started with a boat in distress on Saturday while the tanker, buggy, and QRS were at County Convention. The calls rolled right into Sunday, starting at 1150 hours with the Tanker being sent to York County at the Cool Creek Golf Club in Wrightsville to assist at the scene of a structure fire. Then at 1541 hours another water rescue call was dispatched on the Susquehanna River in the area of Long Level for reports of a boat taking on water. Squad 78 and Boat 781 along with other area companies responded to assist. The boat in distress was towed back to Long Level and the occupants were delivered safely to shore. While out on the river, crews came across a capsized sail boat and assisted those occupants with righting their vessel. Finally around dinner time the Tanker went to Central Manor Rd. for a public service. Monday brought two more calls for service. First Engine 782 and Tanker 78 were sent to 3049 River Rd. to assist Company 62 (Highville) on an Automatic Fire Alarm at the landfill. Then at 1941 hours the Tanker took in a public service on Hershey Mill Rd. A total of 6 runs have been handled by the volunteers of Washington Boro so far this week.

The 88th annual Lancaster County Fireman's Associate Convention and Parade was held today, hosted by the Strasburg Fire Company. The members spent all week cleaning and inspecting equipment on the duty vehicle, tanker, and QRS in preparation for judging before and during the parade. The judging was done by Cutting Edge Judges and the parade was routed in and around the Borough of Strasburg. Thank you to all the members who helped get the apparatus ready for the Convention and Parade. We look forward to participating again next year in Quarryville. While these units were at Convention, Company 78 was alerted for a boat in distress on the Susquehanna River in the area of Lock 2. It was reported that a boat had become stranded on a sandbar in the area of Long Level. Squad 78 with Boat 781 responded to Blue Rock boat launch and prepared to deploy. While the crew was "putting in" the occupants of the boat in distress were able to free themselves and the assignment was placed in service.
